180 knots/sq. in. Central Asia , mid 20th Century SALE $ 595. !!
It is very unusual to find a Turkoman prayer rug these days and,
even more so, one from Central Asia, the ancestral home of the Turkoman clans.
This is truly a rug that was woven to commemorate a Haj, or pilgramage, to the
Holy Shrines in Mecca and, probably, one that was taken there in order to sell
and pay for some or all of the trip. There is some script and numbers woven into the upper
left section of the field that was colored over with some ink.( I decided to
leave the removal of the ink to a true expert so there it remains, for now
anyway.) My best guess is that the script was woven to give the date and
other information of the Haj. Since most rugs of this type are true
antiques, the date was disguised in order to allow a later owner/seller be 'less
than honest' about the age of this rug! This rug certainly dates from the
mid-20th Century and NOT some pre-20th Century era.
Every Oriental rug, carpet or weaving presented here
is guaranteed to satisfy the purchaser or a refund will be made upon return
of the purchased item(s) to East-West Ashland, OR 97520.
